Havening, sometimes referred to as Amygdala Depotentiation Therapy, is a pioneering psychosensory approach created and developed by Drs. Ronald and Steven Ruden.

Grounded in neuroscience, Havening gently works with the brain and body to release the emotional charge associated with difficult or distressing experiences.

This modality is particularly supportive and effective for people experiencing stress, anxiety-related issues, trauma, phobias and other areas of emotional overwhelm.

How Does It Work?

Simply put, when we experience something distressing or traumatic, the brain stores/saves

the associated emotions, sensations, and perceptions in a way that keeps them active long after

the event has passed.

These “stuck” responses continue to trigger the body’s stress system, leading to anxiety, intrusive thoughts, or patterns of avoidance.

Havening Techniques use a gentle, soothing form of touch, applied to the arms, hands, and face, alongside specific psychological processes.

This combination helps the brain enter a calming state associated with delta brainwave activity, supporting the natural process of de-linking emotional distress from the memory.

As the nervous system settles, people experience a deep sense of calm, relief, and clarity.

Clients often describe the experience as safe, calming, and surprisingly effective.

Dr Ronald Ruden, a Harvard-trained physician, neuroscience researcher, and author of 'When the Past Is Always Present' and 'The Craving Brainhas dedicated decades to understanding how emotional trauma is encoded in the brain and how it can be resolved.

Dr Steven Ruden is a highly respected dental surgeon and specialist in dental phobia.

Working together, the Ruden brothers developed Havening Techniques after years of research into how traumatic memories form and how they can be transformed.

Research into Havening continues to grow. Early studies and clinical observations suggest promising

results for reducing anxiety and emotional distress.
